September – A Month Of Colour

Hola Light Monkeys,

For this month of September we are going to be celebrating a month of colour with lessons, talks and challenges.

I find it personally amusing that I went to photo school to become the next Ansel Adams. I was in love with black and white photography.

On a whim, I took a colour theory class and started colour printing. I thought I knew what love was, but I didn’t; colour printing changed how I thought about photography and creativity.

It was love at first print!

There was no going back to my first love but it still holds a place in my heart…you know how it is…

Colour gave me the option to really alter reality and add this important layer of information to my photographs.

The RYB Colour Wheel

The depth it added. The emotional impact. The complex contrast.

All of these qualities seem simple to see and use at first, but as you get more into it and your knowledge expands you realize that colour can go very deep indeed.

The why, the what and a little of the how can go a long way in helping you understand and use colour more effectively in your photography.

That is why we are going to spend this month learning about colour. I think it is very important to have a good foundational understanding of colour.

On August 29th we had the first of the three part colour sessions – Colour Theory and Harmony live session (you’ll find it under My Courses).

On Sunday September 13th I will be doing part 2 live – and I will end the session with a new photo challenge.

The 3rd and final class of Colour Theory and Harmony will be held live on the 27th Sep.

Check the event calendar for time and place. I hope you all can make it.

So, an exciting month ahead!

Leave some comments below if you have something you want to add.

All the best
